A bathrobe provides the perfect balance of luxury and everyday functionality. Of course, you can dry yourself with a towel and wear pajamas while drinking your morning coffee, but this wearable textile can make these humdrum experiences all the more enjoyable.

When it comes to bathrobes for women, there's no one-size-fits-all (or rather one-style-fits-all) option. Read on for a rundown of the best robes for women, including standout materials and tips for choosing the right size and color.

Best Ladies Robe Materials

Some of the best robes for women are made out of organic cotton, Turkish cotton, cloud cotton, linen and waffle-weave fabrics. Get details below.

Organic Cotton Robe

Organic cotton is made from the fibers of organically grown cotton plants. The bushes are planted from non-GMO seeds and farmed without any synthetic pesticides or chemical-laden fertilizers. This eco-friendly fabric is also produced with less water and energy than traditional cotton.

When shopping for bathrobes for women and other organic garments, look for the GOTSⓇ label. Certified by the Global Organic Textile Standard, the seal ensures each stage of the supply chain is up to par with the organization's social and ecological criteria. Learn more in our guide, What Is GOTS, and Why Should You Care About This Textile Certification?

Why Women Love This Organic Cotton Bathrobe

Sourced from sustainably grown and harvested plant fibers and produced with a supply chain that meets GOTS standards, this organic cotton robe is among the most eco-friendly options for women.

The jersey-knit fabric is uniquely stretchy without the need for elastic, spandex or other synthetic materials. This lightweight robe is as soft as your favorite t-shirt and comes in an extra-long, relaxed fit that's perfect for layering over pajamas.

Classic Turkish Cotton Robe

For those who prefer a terry cloth towel robe, Turkish cotton is the way to go. It's woven from extra-long plant fibers, which makes it not only stronger but also softer than regular cotton. Though the material is exceptionally plush and thick, it's not as heavy as it looks.

Why Women Love This Turkish Cotton Spa Robe

Featuring a traditional shawl collar, two slouchy pockets and a waist tie, this classic bathrobe is among the best robes for women. Reminiscent of a luxury spa, the long-staple Turkish cotton fibers are woven at 450 grams per square meter. The result? Unbeatable plushness and a cozy feel you'll love wearing year-round.

Cloud Cotton Robe

Cloud cotton is another fan-favorite material when it comes to bathrobes for women. The ultra-light and exceptionally fluffy fabric features a four-ply long-staple Turkish cotton gauze, which makes it durable without sacrificing softness.

Why Women Love This Cloud Cotton Bathrobe

This cloud cotton robe for women is supremely soft and lightweight but also cozy enough to wear all four seasons. The knee-length cut meets with a relaxed fit, a sash-style waist and two hidden side pockets for a casually comfortable appeal.

Linen Robe

Linen is one of the most beloved bedding textiles, thanks to its unbeatable strength and increasingly soft feel. Yet sheets and duvet covers are far from the only way to enjoy this versatile, luxurious fabric. Some of the best robes for women are also made of linen. Sourced from the long, sturdy fibers of European flax plants, the billowy textile is durable yet lightweight and endlessly breathable.

Why Is European Flax Linen the Best in the World? Our blog has all the answers.

Why Women Love This Linen Bathrobe

This linen robe is loomed from 100% European flax fibers and garment washed to provide a super-soft, lived-in feel the first time you slip it on. The easy-breezy fabric is slightly heavier than what you'd get with linen bedding, which gives it a nice drape without feeling too weighty.

As one of the best robes for women, the longer cut goes down to the shins or ankles, depending on your height. And the relaxed fit easily slips over pajamas or loungewear.

Waffle Weave Robe

Women's cotton robes with a waffle weave are ideal for those who prefer a medium plushness. This textile is woven from long-staple Turkish cotton at 230 grams per square meter with an intricate, three-dimensional looming technique. The result is a honeycomb-style texture and a cozy yet lightweight feel.

See our Waffle Weave Fabric Guide for more details.

Why Women Love This Women's Waffle Robe

This soft, airy waffle robe was inspired by the towels and washcloths found at the world's finest spas. It's got a folded collar, two hip pockets and a knee-length cut perfect for summertime lounging, balmy climates and warm-weather vacations.

A light yet cozy robe like this might be what you need to Upgrade Your Bedtime Routine.

The Best Bathrobes for Women Are Oeko-Tex Certified

When shopping for robes, you'll see many options carrying the Oeko-Tex Standard 100 label. This label certifies that the fabric was tested to ensure it's free of more than 100 potentially harmful substances. From raw plant fibers and dyes to threads and buttons, each and every component of a product is assessed to confirm it's safe for you and the planet.

Choosing Bathrobe Sizes for Women

Whether you're shopping for yourself or have someone special in mind, choosing the right size is crucial. Yet the best robes for women have somewhat relaxed silhouettes and adjustable waist ties. This means you can usually go up or down a size without worrying about whether it'll fit.

Unisex Sizes

Bathrobes often come in unisex sizes ranging from extra-small to extra-large. Since they're meant to fit both men and women, the larger options will be slightly looser than garments that only come in women's sizes. The smallest will be a bit larger than most ladies' extra-small pieces. You can typically go with the size you'd wear in a unisex or men's t-shirt, but when in doubt, check the size chart for exact measurements.

Length

Length is another key consideration when browsing bathrobes for women. Some designs go to the knees or sometimes slightly above. While length is mostly a matter of preference, long robes for women that reach the shins or ankles will provide a little more coverage and warmth.

How to Wear a Bathrobe

The right way to put on a bathrobe depends on the type and style, but traditional wrap-around designs with waist sashes generally work the same. Here's what to do:

  1. Start by sliding your arms through the sleeves with the opening of the robe in the front. Then adjust the shoulders so the fabric is draped evenly on both sides.

  2. Next, pull one side of the bathrobe inward to wrap it around your waist. If it has inner ribbons, tie them together to help it stay securely in place even when the sash is undone.

  3. Then pull the opposite side inward and around your waist.

  4. Finally, hold one end of the sash in either hand and tie them securely into a bow or knot.

If the bathrobe doesn't have inner ribbons, you might need to use your elbow to hold it in place while securing the sash. To keep your robe from coming undone, try attaching the sash just through the front two loops instead of bringing it all the way around the back. That way, you'll have plenty of slack to make a tight bow or double-knot.

Bathrobes for Women: Selecting Color

The best robes for women are not only soft and comfy but also stylish. While the cut is undoubtedly part of the equation, you shouldn't overlook color.

You can choose something in the same texture or color as your bath towels for a uniform look. Alternatively, select a complementing hue. This means the colors don't match but rather enhance each other for a cohesive aesthetic.

If you don't plan on hanging your robe in the bathroom, consider choosing a color that goes with your bedroom design scheme. Want to make a chic statement? Opt for blush, ochre, terracotta, burgundy, amber or a fun print. When in doubt, you can't go wrong with neutrals, like white, beige, grey or charcoal.
