Welcome to the peaceful Topanga treehouse of our photographer, Jessica Schramm. The sun soaked rooms, lush surrounding greenery and sweeping views are what caught her eye when she first saw the place. With original 70s redwood panelling to keep things cozy, this charming space is filled with details that make it a happy home. Join us for a tour of Jessica's place!

Tell us more about your home...

I moved into my Topanga tree house about a year ago with my boyfriend McCabe. It was built in the 70’s, and still has original redwood panelling throughout and colorful tiles in the kitchen and bathrooms. We initially wanted to paint the walls white, but since we rent, we had to leave them as is. We’ve grown to fully embrace the funky, cozy vibe of the house and lean into it with quirky decor and lots of comfy nooks. I guess our design strategy is just about filling the house with objects and elements that make us smile. I like for the decor to have a sense of nostalgia and personality.

What makes your neighborhood / community special?

Topanga is such a unique and special place. It has a very strong sense of community, and I’ve loved getting to know our neighbors. It feels a bit like we’ve gone back in time to a world where your mechanic lives down the street, your best friends provide you with unlimited citrus from their yard, and you’ve got everything you need right in town. It’s also so beautiful that sometimes it’s difficult to leave.

What part of your home brings the most comfort?

I can’t get enough of the sun-filled bedroom. The downstairs of the house is shaded making it super cozy in the winter and cool in the summer, but the bedroom gets drenched in sunlight all year. I've outfitted our bedroom in all linen bedding and fluffy pillows to create the ultimate oasis to recharge. The view of the canyon makes me happy every single morning.

How did you go about designing your outdoor space?

The canyon is a special place and we knew immediately that we needed to take advantage of the privacy, greenery and views this house has to offer. We’ve set up an outdoor living room on our porch with loads of Parachute Euro Pillows and shams. We also set up an outdoor dining table and chairs so we can enjoy meals al fresco. We both love to cook and enjoying a meal while watching the sun set is truly one of life's little pleasures. We’re so lucky to have this kind of outdoor space, and I just had this vision to create the ultimate lounging nook. Our porch is the best place for coffee, wine, working, napping…I cannot wait to host friends out here!
