Nestled between Victorian homes and industrial shipping containers-turned retail locations, our newest brick-and-mortar has opened its doors in San Francisco. With chill vibes, unique shopping, dining and one-of-a-kind finds on every corner, we were thrilled to get to know our Hayes Valley ‘hood. We took a tour of our new neighborhood and put together a list (and map!) of some of city’s most unique spots. Read on for where to eat, drink and shop, Parachute included.
Best Eats
a Mano: Located across the street from our new store, a Mano is serving up affordable yet precious pizza and pasta – need we say more? Reservations aren’t accepted so we recommend putting in your name early and enjoying a negroni at the bar.
Petit Crenn: The all-white yet charming and warm Petit Crenn, of Dominique Crenn, boasts an impressive list of French wines to pair with her seafood focused tasting menu, inspired by Northern California. Consider booking far in advance unless you prefer going rogue at the bar.
Soulva: Dubbed 'fast fine,' cuisine by the New York Times, this Greek restaurant in the heart of Hayes Valley remedies the rising cost of rent and staff with an emphasis of quality ingredients and a serve yourself mentality. Whether you order a pita sandwich or a salad, don’t a glass of Greek wine and come prepared to bus yourself.
Best Treats
Miette: Hayes Valley has charm but Miette Cakes invented it. The cheerful confectionary features a seasonal selection of cakes, tarts, pastries and an old fashioned candy bar. We're coming back for the lavender shortbread.
Smitten Ice Cream: Fro-yo is so 2008. Bay Area devotees will tell you it's all about liquid nitrogen this local chain uses to churn their creams. Set up in a converted shipping container along Patricia’s green, Smitten boasts flavors like Brown Sugar Butter Pecan, Earl Grey and more. Be sure to get a waffle cone.
Best Drinks
The Riddler: Featuring over 100 champagnes by the bottle as well as a sparkling wine selection, this champagne bar might literally have it all. From a female led team to tater tot waffles, stop in day or night for a glass of bubbly paired their free popcorn, or a more relatable caviar and potato chips from their menu.
Anina: Hold the champagne and pass the punch bowl. The cocktail bar, owned by neighboring bar Brass Tacks, has become a favorite Hayes Valley watering hole. With a spacious outdoor patio, Anina is great for big groups or a quick drink while waiting for your table at a Mano.
Best Shops
Parachute: Located at 445 Hayes Street, our fifth retail location is decorated with like-minded vendors and local artisans – the entryway features a commission from S.F. based artist Ethan Caflisch (sound familiar?).
Clare V.: There is no shortage of great neighbors in Hayes Valley, Clare V. being one of them. This brand partner and fellow L.A. based brand is situated in Linden Alley, sharing a back garden with the Parachute store. Parisian charm shines through in their bright and airy space adorned with millennial pink floors and their signature leather purses.
MMclay: The tiny studio where Mary Mar Keenan works out of produces handmade, glazed and fired ceramic pieces that can be seen in some of the area’s best restaurants. Their exclusive pieces pair perfectly with Parachute table linens. Viewings are by appointment only.
Metier: Beloved by locals for over 20 years, this female led business recently relocated to Hayes Valley, bringing with them a curated collection of stunning one-of-a kind pieces. Spending a day in Metier – which can easily be done – is akin to walking into a jewelry box. This small but mighty boutique showcases a mix of heirloom pieces, modern and non traditional jewelry.
Best Things To Do
Patricia's Green: After the original Hayes Valley came down in the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake, activist Patricia Walkup and her supporters petitioned for the damaged Central Freeway to be leveled into what is now, Patricia’s green. This once neglected strip brings new life into the area, complete with a children’s playground and local art installments.
SF Jazz: The SF Jazz Center opened it 2013 as the “first free-standing building in America built for jazz performance and education.” A pillar of community in Hayes Valley, be sure to visit their rotating art exhibits and concert series.
